Everything you need to know about AvioData — what it is, what it does, how it compares, and how to get started.
AvioData (aviodata.net) is an independent Dutch aviation Safety Management System (SMS) platform for airlines and NCC operators. Founded in 2010 and operated as a Dutch stichting, it provides a modular, cloud-based SMS solution fully aligned with EASA ORO.GEN.200.
AvioData is designed for EASA-regulated airlines and Non-Commercial Complex (NCC) operators of any size — from single-aircraft operations to multi-base fleets. The platform is modular, so operators can start with the modules they need and expand over time.
Yes. AvioData is specifically designed to be practical for smaller operators who cannot justify the cost or complexity of enterprise SMS tools. The modular approach means you pay only for what you use, and the setup time is measured in days, not months.
Yes. AvioData is setup for operators of all sizes, from small NCCs to large airline groups. The modular approach allows for scalable implementation without unnecessary complexity. The ease-to-use interface and built-in regulatory alignment can be a significant advantage for larger operators looking to streamline their SMS without a lengthy implementation project.
AvioData was previously distributed in partnership with Nextgear Aviation. That partnership has ended. The platform is now operated directly and exclusively at aviodata.net — it is the same underlying system, now without the Nextgear Aviation branding.
No. AvioData (aviodata.net) is entirely independent. AvioBook (aviobook.aero) is a Thales Group company that markets an unrelated navigation database product under a similar name. The two products serve different purposes and share no organisational, legal, or commercial connection.
Yes. AvioData is built from the ground up around the ORO.GEN.200 safety management framework. Every module maps to a specific element of the regulatory requirement — from hazard identification and risk assessment to corrective action tracking and internal audit.
Yes. The Event Report module supports structured occurrence reporting consistent with EU Regulation 376/2014 on mandatory occurrence reporting in civil aviation. Reports capture the required classification and detail fields, and the module supports investigation workflow and authority submission documentation.
Yes. All module activity is logged with timestamps, user attribution, and status history. This creates a complete, auditable trail that inspectors can review directly within the platform — covering corrective actions, audit findings, hazard assessments, management communications, and more.
The Event Report module captures event type, severity, and contributing factor information in structured fields aligned with standard aviation occurrence taxonomy. Contact us to discuss specific ECCAIRS integration requirements for your operation.
Yes. While AvioData is built for aviation SMS under ORO.GEN.200, the underlying workflows — corrective actions, audit checklists, hazard logs, document libraries, internal communications, and management of change — map naturally onto the requirements of ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 27001 (Information Security Management). Organisations in other regulated industries that share these quality and safety management disciplines can use AvioData as their compliance management backbone without modification.
No. AvioData was built for aviation, but its core workflows — corrective action tracking, audit management, hazard and risk logging, document libraries, management of change, and structured internal communications — are directly applicable to any organisation that manages a quality or safety management system. If your organisation works to ISO 9001, ISO 27001, or a comparable framework, the platform is a strong fit.
ISO 9001 requires documented processes for nonconformity management, corrective actions, internal audits, document control, and management review. AvioData covers all of these: the Corrective Action module handles nonconformities and CARs, Audit Checklist manages internal audits with scoring and findings, Library provides version-controlled document management, and Minutes supports formal management review records.
ISO 27001 requires a risk register, corrective action tracking, internal audit capability, document control, and change management. AvioData's Hazard Log can serve as an information security risk register, Corrective Action tracks remediation, Audit Checklist manages ISO 27001 internal audits, Management of Change records controlled changes, and Library handles policy document version control.
Any regulated industry with structured safety, quality, or compliance management requirements is a potential fit — including healthcare (incident reporting, audits), maritime (ISM Code compliance), ground handling, aerospace MRO, and defence contractors working to quality standards. The modular architecture means organisations can activate only the workflows relevant to their framework.
Most enterprise SMS platforms are designed for large airline groups — they come with long implementation timelines, per-seat pricing, and feature sets that go far beyond what a typical airline or NCC operator actually needs. AvioData is different: modular, cloud-native, and operational within days. You start with what your operation needs, and the platform grows with you — without the overhead of an enterprise rollout.
AvioData includes 15 integrated modules: Corrective Action Request, Audit Checklist, Hazard Log, Event Report, Audit Schedule, Management of Change, Notice to Crew, Memo, Minutes, Manuals, Legal & Regulatory, Library, Notice to MT, Tasks, Other Actions. All modules are interconnected — data flows naturally between them without duplication.
Yes. The AvioData EFB app is available for iPad and iPhone on the App Store. It supports auto login, library browsing and search, notices and memos, offline audit questionnaires with findings and photo attachments, and offline event reporting with photo and file attachments. Reports and audits sync automatically when the device reconnects.
Yes. AvioData is 100% cloud-based — there is nothing to install, patch, or maintain on your own infrastructure. Access it from any modern browser, or from the iOS EFB app.
Yes. Access to modules and data is controlled by role. Crew, auditors, safety managers, and management personnel each see the views and actions appropriate to their role. Auditor-specific features (such as offline audit questionnaires with findings) are only available to users with the auditor role.
Yes. AvioData supports OAuth-based login, allowing organisations to connect the platform to their existing identity provider — including Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Google Workspace, and other OAuth 2.0-compatible providers. Users can then log in with their existing corporate credentials, and access can be managed centrally through your organisation's IdP without maintaining separate AvioData passwords.
Yes. AvioData supports WebAuthn passkeys — the modern passwordless authentication standard. Users can log in using Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a hardware security key instead of a password. Passkeys are phishing-resistant by design and significantly reduce the risk of credential-based account compromise. We recommend enabling passkeys and disabling password login for the strongest account security posture.
AvioData uses a per-operator subscription model. Pricing is based on the modules selected and the size of your operation. We do not charge per-user fees for most roles. Contact us for a tailored quote — we offer a free, no-commitment demo so you can see the full platform before making any decision.
We offer a free, personalised demo rather than a self-serve trial. This lets us walk you through the platform in the context of your specific operation — which tends to be far more useful than clicking around an empty system alone. Request a demo via our contact page.
Most operators are up and running within days. There is no installation, no data migration required on day one, and no lengthy onboarding project. You start with the modules you need, and we support you through the initial setup.
We're happy to answer any question about the platform, compliance alignment, or how AvioData would work for your specific operation.
